KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) – A car crashed through the sanctuary of Ignite at The CrossRoad Church on Tuesday afternoon, leaving the pastor to assess damage ahead of Sunday services.
Pastor Brandon Hord said he was on his way to another church when he received a call.
“He called me and told me, ‘Do not come to my church. Go to your church,’ There’s a car in your sanctuary,” Hord said.
A silver Toyota 4Runner sat in the center of the sanctuary when Hord arrived.
“We do know that it could have been a lot worse. Obviously, very thankful that no one was in the building when the accident occurred,” Norah Hord, Brandon Hord’s wife said.
Seymour Volunteer Fire Department said they believe the driver suffered a medical emergency that caused the crash. The driver was taken to the hospital. Their condition is unknown.
Hord and his wife are working to repair the damage before Sunday service.
“We’re usually packed out at least one Sunday a month,” Hord said.
He added it could be weeks or months until the damage is fixed.
“I think we’re just going to move forward. We don’t let things like this get in our way,” Hord said.
The church has a GoFundMe for repairs.
