Knox County, Tenn. (WOKI) — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Unit and Major Crimes Unit are currently on the scene of a fatal structure fire in the Seymour area.
At approximately 7:00 a.m. today, emergency crews were dispatched to a reported fire in the 400 block of Bays Mountain Road. Upon arrival, first responders with the Seymour Fire Department and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office located an active fire and began suppression and investigative efforts.
One individual has been confirmed deceased. The victim will be transported to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center for an autopsy. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending positive identification by the Medical Examiner and proper notification to next of kin.
Both the cause of the fire and the cause of death remain under active investigation by the KCSO Fire Investigation Unit and Major Crimes Unit. At this time, no additional details are being released.
