KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) – A Knoxville icon is set to close its doors after nearly 150 years in business.
Mayo Garden Centers announced on social media Wednesday that the Mayo family has “made the difficult decision to close.”
“This was not an easy choice,” the business said in a post. “Changing business conditions and family circumstances have led us to the point where we must say goodbye to a company that has meant so much to our family and our community. We are deeply grateful to our friends and customers who have supported us for generations.”
Mayo Garden Center has been open since 1878 and has two locations: 4718 Kingston Pike and 9629 Kingston Pike.
“While we are sad to see this long chapter come to an end, we hope you will stop by, enjoy the sale, and help us celebrate the many memories made over the years,” the post continued.
A public closing sale begins Friday, March 13. The post said all inventory will be sold at a significant savings, including outdoor furniture, grills, chainsaws, mowers, garden tools, seeds and plants.
