KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – McKay’s is set to permanently close its Knoxville location after 40 years.
The popular used bookstore on Papermill Drive said Wednesday evening that its last day of business will be Sunday, May 3.
“It has been an honor to be part of the Knoxville community for the last four decades,” store officials said. “If you bought, sold, or traded with us, you helped keep books and media on the shelves of people who appreciate it, and we are so thankful for your support! Please come see us before we close to find a good book and say goodbye.”
Starting Thursday, Feb. 26, incoming items will no longer be accepted, officials said, adding that anyone who needs to pick up payment for a previously submitted order should go to the register.
Despite this, returns will still be accepted through the store’s last day of business. After that date, all sales will be final and refunds won’t be issued.
“Though the Knoxville property has been sold and the store is closing, McKay’s is always changing and growing,” officials said. “We’re taking time to evaluate our next steps, so please stay tuned for further announcements.”
No other McKay’s locations are closing, officials said, meaning book lovers can still find McKay’s in Chattanooga and Nashville in Tennessee and Winston-Salem and Mebane in North Carolina.
