Tennessee – (story courtesy of WVLT) – The Tennessee Department of Transportation is hard at work in East Tennessee after a pair of winter storms, combined with bitter cold temperatures, led to a multitude of potholes.
Last winter, many people reported to WVLT that potholes were one of their top complaints on the roads. TDOT officials recently said frequent changes in the temperature during the winter creates the perfect recipe for potholes.
TDOT’s Mark Nagi said crews took advantage of a clear, springlike Tuesday to fill potholes in Greene County on West AJ Highway between I-81 and Greeneville.
Nagi recently explained that because asphalt plants aren’t open as much in the winter, crews lay down a temporary patch with plans for a more permanent patch when temperatures warm up.
Drivers can report potholes by calling 833-TDOT-FIX. Nagi said crews will collect information from callers and dispatch crews to patch damaged areas as quickly as possible.
