NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Story Courtesy of WVLT / WSMV) – The Tennessee Department of Education has announced key dates for the application process for the school voucher program for the 2026-27 school year.
This will be the state’s second year of the Education Freedom Scholarship program.
The program allows parents to choose the school that best fits their child’s needs, regardless of income level or zip code, according to the state. This will be Tennessee’s second year of the Education Freedom Scholarship program.
- December 9: Application Window Opens for Renewal EFS Applications for students currently receiving EFS scholarship
- January 13: Application Window Opens for New EFS Applications
- January 30: Application Window Closes for ALL Applications
The state reports that the students who applied for the program for the 2025-26 school year and did not receive a scholarship are considered new applicants for this time around and may apply beginning January 13, 2026.
Resources for renewal and new applications for the 2026-27 school year will be released soon, ahead of the window opening, the state said on Thursday.
Families can sign up for regular email updates, which will include details on registered participating schools for the 2026-27 school year as more information becomes available.
