Knoxville, TN (WOKI / KPD) – Jamarcus Murphy, 20, and Jamahus Murphy, 18, were arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder after investigation into a shooting that happened in North Knoxville on Friday evening.
At around 4:45 p.m. on Friday, December 5, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the area of W. Oldham Avenue and Worth Street regarding a shooting. Officers arrived in the area and found a vehicle that had crashed down an embankment. Two women were inside the vehicle. One of the women had been shot, while the other was unresponsive, possibly due to injuries sustained in the crash. Both victims were removed from the vehicle, treated on scene by responding Knoxville Fire Department and AMR personnel, and transported to the UT Medical Center.
Officers located the shooting scene near the intersection of Worth Street and W. Emerald Avenue. Through continued investigation, including a review of area surveillance video, it was determined that the suspects left the scene in a black Honda Accord following the shooting.
Working in concert, at around 8:30 p.m., Community Engagement Response Team officers and Violent Crimes Unit detectives located the suspect vehicle parked at the Kroger at 6702 Clinton Highway, where both Jamarcus and Jamahus Murphy were taken into custody.
After being interviewed by Violent Crime detectives, both Jamarcus and Jamahus Murphy were charged with attempted first-degree murder, while Jamahus was also charged with employing a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
The motive for the shooting is undetermined at this time and the investigation remains ongoing.
