KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) – A mother in Knox County was convicted on Thursday after her daughter, husband and herself overdosed on fentanyl during a hospital visit, according to District Attorney Charme Allen.
A jury convicted Stacy Rena Boles, 46, of aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect on Nov. 20.
During a three-day trial, assistant district attorneys said on April 26, 2022, Boles visited her husband at the UT Medical Center with her 16-year-old daughter. She also brought a bag of fentanyl to share with her husband.
According to Allen, during the visit, Boles’ daughter also used the fentanyl. UTMC staff called a Code Blue after they found all three overdosed in the hospital room.
They all received doses of naloxone and were revived, but Allen said the daughter is now permanently disabled.
“While we have made progress reducing the number of overdose deaths in our community, fentanyl remains the most dangerous drug on our streets,” Allen said. “Fentanyl and fentanyl analogues have been the top drug found in overdose death cases in Knox County since 2016.”
Boles is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 15, 2026. She could face between eight to 12 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
