Knoxville, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – A teen charged in the death of a 13 year-old girl in Powell has a new court date.
Malakiah Lamar Harris appeared in court today (Tuesday), this new date is to decide if the 15-year-old charged in the murder of Savannah Copeland in October of 2024 will be charged as an adult.
Instead of the previously-set January date, the case will continue on February 25th, 26th and March 2nd.
Both the prosecution and defense have agreed to move the date back so they could have more time to review a “new discovery” being made available after the start of the case.
The February date will be used to see if Juvenile Court Judge Tim Irwin can find probable cause to try Harris as an adult. If probable cause is found, Irwin will file the transfer to send Harris to criminal court.
