KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Four trees were planted in Malcolm Martin Park today in honor of Arbor Day by KUB, the City of Knoxville, the Tennessee Division of Forestry, and Trees Knoxville. During the event, KUB received its 24th consecutive Tree Line USA® award from the Arbor Day Foundation. KUB was recognized with the award for implementing best practices in utility arboriculture through quality tree care, annual worker training, tree planting, and public education.
“In East Tennessee, we are lucky to be surrounded by an array of beautiful trees,” said KUB President and CEO Gabriel J. Bolas II. “KUB remains committed to quality tree care while providing safe, reliable electric service to the community.”
KUB maintains over 5,000 miles of electric lines and prunes trees along approximately 1,000 miles of those lines each year. In the last year, KUB planted over 450 trees throughout the community. When planted properly, trees can reduce energy consumption, provide beauty, enhance quality of life, and promote clean air and water.
KUB encourages the community to plant the right tree in the right place to enhance the environment and maintain utility safety. For more information on how to plant the right tree in the right place and KUB’s tree pruning services, visit www.kub.org/plantsmart.
