Knoxville, TN (WVLT) A 27-year-old man is facing charges after witnesses told police he got into a fight at a Knoxville bar, followed a man down Kingston Pike, and fired a rifle.
It happened around 2 a.m. Sunday when officers responded to Bucket Head Tavern on Ray Mears Boulevard, according to a police report obtained by WVLT News.
The officer who wrote the report said he was told Austin Wayne Ford had gotten into a fight outside the bar with a couple. During the fight, police were told, Ford grabbed a black rifle from his truck.
“[The witness] advised she was afraid Austin was going to shoot her and her boyfriend over the fight and argument even though she did not remember him pointing the gun at her directly,” the report said.
As the fight escalated, the report said, both the man and woman left the bar in their cars, and Ford followed the man in his truck.
“[The witness] advised when the truck got to Kingston Pike next to Red Lobster, she heard the truck shoot several rounds,” the report said. “[The witness] advised she did not know if the shots were fired at her boyfriend or in the air.”
Another witness — the bar’s security guard — also spoke with the officer, the report said. That man said he saw the fight in the parking lot, and added that Ford had looked at him and said “I am going to kill someone.”
Ford has since been taken into custody. He was charged with aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.
