An investigation is underway by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation after a man dies in Monroe County custody.
Sheriff Tommy Jones says a man has died after an incident on Highway 68 yesterday (Sunday) afternoon when the Madisonville Police Department was called to a report of a vehicle stopped partially in the roadway on New Highway 68 at Turnpike Road.
When officers arrived, the driver got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers chased the driver and deployed tasers which had no effect.
Sheriff Jones says the man was taken into custody but began ‘aggressively resisting arrest’ and during the struggle, the subject became unresponsive.
Officers immediately began CPR and Narcan until EMS arrived and transported him to to the hospital, where he later died.
