An execution date has been set for a Tennessee death row inmate who was convicted of murdering two people over three decades ago.
Gary Wayne Sutton’s execution date has been set for December 3, 2026.
He has been on death row since 1996 after he was given the death penalty after he was convicted by two separate juries for the murders of Connie Branam and her brother, Tommy Griffin, in 1992.
Records show Branam’s body was discovered in her burned vehicle and Griffin was shot to death.
This isn’t the first execution date that has been set for Sutton. His first was set for October 6, 2022 but Governor Bill Lee halted all executions later that year as the Tennessee Department of Corrections was creating a new protocol for lethal injections in the state.
