KPD NEWS RELEASE: One killed in Western Avenue crash
A driver died in a two-car crash that happened Friday night on Western Avenue.
At just after 6 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a crash on Western Avenue near Sullivan Road.
The investigation revealed that one vehicle crossed the center turn lane into the oncoming lanes of travel for reasons that remain under investigation and crashed head-on into a second vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle that crossed into oncoming traffic later died at the UT Medical Center. A passenger in that vehicle and the driver of the other involved vehicle were treated for suspected non-life-threatening injuries at UTMC.
The crash is being investigated by KPD crash reconstruction investigators.
