Knoxville, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – Heavy rainfall caused flooding in an area just north of downtown Knoxville Sunday night into Monday morning, leaving behind damaged vehicles and debris.
Flooding was reported near the intersection of North Broadway and North Central, close to the Tyson Court apartment complex. Video from the scene showed several feet of standing water covering parts of the area late Sunday night.
Residents said Monday morning that several vehicles were heavily damaged or totaled after becoming trapped in the floodwaters.
City of Knoxville crews responded to the area to assess conditions and inspect drainage systems. By Monday morning, the floodwaters had receded, but mud, debris, and other signs of damage remained.
No injuries were immediately reported.
Officials are reminding motorists to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to use caution in areas where heavy rain may impact drainage and road conditions.
