Nashville, Tennessee (WOKI/WVLT) – A bill that would make records related to immigration enforcement operations confidential and punish the release of those records as a felony has passed in the Senate and House.
The bill would make the following items related to immigration enforcement operations in Tennessee private and not subject to public records requests or inspections: name, address and other identifying information of any law enforcement officer involved and operation details, such as date logistics or strategies
If signed by Governor Bill Lee, it would be a crime for any government official to release this information and violators would face a Class E felony. Penalties would include one to six years in prison along with a $3,000 fine.
