KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) – In an effort to help Transportation Security Administration officers who are working without pay during the partial government shutdown, McGhee Tyson Airport is collecting donations.
“At TYS, we’ve been proud to support our local friends and neighbors who work for TSA and are grateful for their continued dedication to our passengers,” the airport said in a social media post.
The airport said anyone who would like to show their support can bring grocery store, gas station and prepaid gift cards for TSA officers to the TSA checkpoint. However, they can’t exceed $20 due to government guidelines.
Additionally, the following items are being collected behind the Delta ticket counter at TYS:
- Baby food
- Diapers – Size 1, 3, 5, 6, 7
- Feminine hygiene products
- Women’s toiletries
- Men’s toiletries
- Toilet paper
- Paper towels
- Non-perishable food items
TSA officers have been working without pay since the partial government shutdown began on Valentine’s Day. Since then, the Department of Homeland Security said more than 450 officers have quit.
“Thank you for supporting these members of our community who help keep air travel safe every day,” the airport said.
