Cocke County, TN (WOKI) – The Tennessee Department of Transportation with an update on work taking place on I-40 in Cocke County, as crews continue to rebuild that roadway, which was heavily damaged by Hurricane Helene in September 2024.
Helene caused heavy damage to seven separate sections on I-40 between MM 446 and MM 451 (TN/NC state line). Repairs to I-40 in Cocke County have an estimated cost to date of $245 million. These repairs are anticipated to be complete in Fall 2027.
The original estimate in damages due to Helene in East Tennessee was $510 million. To date, TDOT has received over $280 million in reimbursement from FHWA for Helene repairs.
