JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) – As the water situation continues to improve in Jefferson County, city leaders are set to give an update and ask for new equipment to fully solve the issue and prevent future problems.
It’s been nearly two weeks since faulty filtration membranes caused low water pressure or no water at all across several utility districts that Jefferson City’s processing plant services.
It took several days for crews to receive and install replacement membranes, which allowed water levels to return to normal.
In a city council work session meeting Tuesday afternoon, City Manager James Gallup and Porter Massengill, the public works director, are set to give an update on the water system.
Additionally, Massengill will discuss a new $35,000 motor for a pump at the water treatment plant, saying the current motor, which pumps water to the Oak Hills tank, has been “rewound” twice. He said it is not recommended to be done a third time.
Massengill will also speak on the need for a $21,000 Varying Frequency Drive (VFD) for the motor for a different pump at the plant “to ensure the redundancy of pumping water to Oak Hills Tank” and a $10,000 VFD to be used as a back up to “continue pumping finish water to the clear well.”
The meeting is slated for 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the Jefferson City Municipal Building.
