Knoxville, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – The Tennessee Theatre says its new 612 Building expansion will be open to the public on March 20, 2026.
The new expansion will provide more private event opportunities, a new practice studio and bring multiple new bathrooms and bars to help shorten lines for show-goers.
“I think overall it’s just the way it’s going to improve the patron experience of the theater,” said Executive Director of Tennessee Theatre Becky Hancock. “Whether that’s the everyday person who walks in and is tired of waiting in a bathroom line, or if it’s a generous donor that we want to be able to thank a little bit better with some nice spaces.”
The expansion was originally a $19 million project, but new opportunities for construction have upped the cost to $24 million. The new aspects of the construction will add a another floor and give an exciting opportunity for local artists.
The new spaces will provide more opportunities for education and outreach initiatives as well.
“The addition of a recording studio is a pretty ambitious idea. But we wanted to figure out something that would really help make the theater more versatile, more attractive to both touring artists and then supportive of local performing artists,” Hancock said.
She also said that the new spaces will provide more opportunities for education and outreach initiatives as well.
