GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) – The Greene County Sheriff’s Department said a man was taken into custody after an hours-long standoff on Friday.
According to Sheriff Wesley Holt, deputies went to a home on Warrensburg Road at around 7 a.m. for what was described as a domestic in progress after a caller said 47-year-old Todd McCamey threatened family members and barricaded himself in the basement with guns and knifes.
When officers arrived on the scene, Holt said McCamey began firing at officers, prompting the department’s SWAT members to respond.
A negotiator was brought in, Holt said, and over the next five hours, McCamey fired several shots inside the home and toward officers outside.
At around 12:30 p.m., McCamey told officers he wanted to resolve the situation peacefully, and Holt said he was taken into custody without further incident and taken to the Greene County Detention Center.
McCamey was charged with three counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated domestic assault and possession of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony. Holt said he will be held without bond until his arraignment on Monday.
Several other agencies responded to the scene, including Tennessee Highway Patrol, Greeneville Police Department, Sevierville Police Department’s drone team, Chaplain Danny Ricker, Greene County EMS and Orebank VFD.
