Knoxville, TN (WOKI) – Former Knoxville City Mayor Randy Tyree has died.
Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon has confirmed he died yesterday at the age of 85.
Tyree was born in Carthage, Tennessee in 1940 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a law degree from the University of Tennessee.
He would go on to be the mayor of Knoxville from 1976 to 1983 and presided over the city for the 1982 World’s Fair.
Tyree said in an interview with WVLT News back in 2022 that it took months of planning and gave the city lots of positive momentum in bringing millions of people to our City.
