UPDATE (11/19/25 11:27 a.m.) – WARTBURG, TN ( Story courtesy of WVLT) – The Morgan County student accused of assaulting a classmate Tuesday and sending them to the hospital is 11 years old, according to District Attorney General Russell Johnson. They’ve been charged with aggravated assault.
The district attorney shared a statement over social media Wednesday morning, outlining more about the suspect once they were taken into custody after a lengthy search.
Investigators said Tuesday that the Wartburg Central Middle School assault hospitalized the victim, but Johnson said their injuries aren’t expected to threaten their life.
The district attorney also said the assault was an isolated incident. It echoes a statement from Morgan County Director of Schools Jamie Pemberton, who said there was no ongoing threat to students.
“It is our understanding that the situation was isolated to the two students with one being the aggressor and one being the victim,” Johnson said.
