Suspect Vehicle Description in Double Fatal Shooting on I-640 Released

UPDATE: Following continued investigation into the early-morning shooting on I-640 West, KPD detectives believe the involved vehicle was a light colored, newer model Ford Bronco, possibly with Michigan tags. The last two digits of the license plate are thought to be “GF”. 

A description of the suspect vehicle, which fled the scene west on I-640 following the shooting, has been broadcast to surrounding law enforcement agencies.

KPD NEWS RELEASE: KPD investigating shooting with multiple victims on I-640 West

The Knoxville Police Department is investigating after three men were shot, including two who were fatally wounded, on I-640 West early Sunday morning. 

At around 3:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2025, KPD officers responded to I-640 West near Gap Road, where they found three gunshot victims. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims were transported from the scene to the UT Medical Center, one of which has also been pronounced dead. The third victim is in critical condition. All three victims are adult men. 

Based on the preliminary findings of the ongoing investigation, it is believed that the following occurred. The three victims were allegedly traveling through Knoxville and riding together with a fourth man in an SUV. The vehicle briefly pulled over on the side of I-640 and the fourth man apparently opened fire on the victims before leaving the scene in the vehicle. 

Efforts remain ongoing to identify and locate the suspect. KPD Homicide Unit detectives are leading the investigation and pursuing active leads.
