The interim director of the Richard L. Bean Juvenile Detention Facility has resigned.
Brian Bivens was appointed the temporary director in July by Mayor Glenn Jacobs. The former Knox County Sheriff’s Office assistant chief had previously overseen operations at the county’s jail and was put in charge of the Bean Center as part of an overarching plan to transition control of it to the sheriff’s office which is slated to begin next year. Bivens’ appointment and the formation of the board of directors was the result of complaints against the center’s former director, Richard L. Bean himself.
Knox County Commissioner and board of directors member Larsen Jay says they are grateful for Bivens service and wish him well in all of his future endeavors.
At this time, there’s no word on why Bivens quit the job.
The juvenile center’s board next meets Thursday and Jay says board members will be discussing what move to make next.
