Luttrell, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – The City of Luttrell is facing a federal lawsuit from a group accusing the city of dumping too many pollutants into the Tennessee river system from its sewage treatment plant.
In the lawsuit, Tennessee Riverkeeper says the city has been pumping polluted water into Fall Creek, which connects to the Holston and, in turn, Tennessee rivers.
A warning notice from Tennessee Riverkeeper obtained by WVLT says the city’s sewage treatment plant has been violating their permit since 2023, with too-high amounts of substances like E. coli, nitrogen and waste solids being detected.
The group is asking for the court to step in by fining the city $74,958.04 for each violation and issuing an injunction to put a stop to the illegal dumping.
The city declined to comment.
