Dandridge, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – The Dandridge Police Department says a man has been charged after an active meth lab is found behind a store.
Dandridge Police Chief Phillip Batts says officers went behind a wooded area behind Weigel’s yesterday (Tuesday) in search for a suspect who ran from an earlier scene.
After several minutes of searching, Batts says officers found a makeshift camp several hundreds yards behind the store in a heavily wooded area and smelled a strong chemical odor consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Officers found the suspect, Michael Cyrus, sitting over a fire and “tending to what appeared to be an active meth lab.”
He was taken into custody after a brief struggle and taken to the Jefferson County Justice Center.
The Dangerous Drugs Task Force Meth Response Team safely removed hazardous materials and chemicals from the scene.
