Knox County, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – Knox County leaders are moving forward with plans to widen Schaad Road after securing funding through a regional transportation improvement program.
The project will expand the busy stretch between Pleasant Ridge Road and Oak Ridge Highway from two lanes to four lanes with a median.
Knox County Officials say construction is scheduled to begin in spring and take approximately two years to complete.
Officials say this project is due, in part, to the fact that Schaad Road has one of the highest crash rates in Knox County with daily traffic increasing from more than 16,000 vehicles in 2022 to more than 18,000 last year.
County and state planners continue seeking public input on road improvement priorities.
Public hearings are scheduled in the coming weeks for TDOT’s I-40 West Corridor Project in three locations.
- Monday, Nov 10 at Farragut Community Center Assembly Hall
- Wednesday, Nov 12 at Pellissippi State Community College, J.L. Goins Administration Building Student Center
- Thursday, Nov 13 at Knoxville Public Works Service Center Community Room
