Knoxville, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – The Salvation Army of Knoxville has launched an emergency food campaign in response to a dramatic rise in food assistance requests.
The “Feed Hope. Share Love.” program comes as food assistance requests have reached a level that’s about three to five times higher than normal in recent weeks.
This comes after the Trump administration posted a notice saying no federal food aid will go out November 1 if the government shutdown continues.
The Salvation Army of Knoxville, which serves Knox, Blount, Sevier, Cocke, Anderson and Campbell counties, is now using the program to help meet the needs of everyone who needs it.
The Salvation Army’s Sevierville and Maryville Corps are also working to provide food and emergency assistance. To help sustain this, the nonprofit is asking for East Tennesseans to help through donations.
Those who wish to donate online can do so to the Knoxville Area Command, Maryville Corps and Sevierville Corps.
Additionally, those wishing to give grocery store gift cards can drop them off at any Salvation Army Corps office.
