KNOXVILLE – Motorists traveling on State Route 29 (U.S. 27) and State Route 61 in Roane County should be aware of upcoming road construction activities that will have an impact on traffic.
Beginning on Monday, October 27, the bridge on State Route 29 (U.S. 27) over State Route 61 will be closed, and a detour will be in place as crews work on the new replacement bridge in this area.
To bypass the work zone, signage will direct motorists to use State Route 61 and then return to State Route 29 (U.S. 27).
This traffic pattern will continue until construction of the new bridge is finished. All work is expected to be complete on or before November 15, 2026.
This schedule is contingent on favorable weather conditions. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use extreme caution in this area as workers will be present.
As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and “Know Before You Go!” by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel. The TDOT SmartWay system provides the latest updates for road construction activity. Travelers can also call 511 for travel information.
