Knoxville, TN (WOKI / KPD) – The Knoxville Police Department has opened an internal administrative investigation into an incident that happened early Thursday morning in Downtown Knoxville.
At just after 1 a.m. on Thursday morning, an officer conducting a walking patrol in the Krutch Park area witnessed a verbal and physical altercation in the 500 block of Gay Street. One man was detained for further investigation and ultimately charged with assault, a class B misdemeanor. The victim of the assault was an off-duty KPD officer, who did not require medical treatment.
The KPD Office of Professional Standards has opened an internal investigation into the totality of the circumstances leading to and surrounding the incident. The investigation is in the early stages.
