Sevierville, TN (WOKI) A Sevier County Sheriff’s Office investigation into an explosion Sunday afternoon at a home in the Ellis Woods Loop area has led to the arrest of the homeowner.
Officials with the sheriff’s office announcing Monday the arrest of 43-year-old Alexander Joseph Piccione who has been charged with having a prohibited weapon.
According to charging documents, Piccione told officers he was trying to make a flash bang when it went off. Officers also reported finding chemicals and other supplies in the house to make explosives.
“Thank you to the residents of Ellis Woods Loop and to the community at large, for your cooperation and your patience with us while we conducted this lengthy investigation,” an emailed statement from Hodges said. “I want to personally thank every agency and first responder who assisted during this complex and potentially dangerous situation. Your quick response, teamwork and professionalism helped ensure the safety of all personnel on scene, and for that I am truly grateful.”
The explosion prompted response from several agencies, including: Sevier County Fire-Rescue, Sevier County Fire Marshal’s Office, Seymour Volunteer Fire Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Sevier County EMS, Sevier County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Sevier County Utility District (SCUD) and Sevier County Interagency HAZMAT.
Piccione is being held on a $40,000 bond.
