Knoxville, TN (WOKI) – The woman behind the wheel in a crash that killed a Knoxville councilman’s daughter last year has pleaded guilty to several charges.
In April of 2024, Savannah Stanley was driving on Schaeffer Road in West Knox County when she crossed over the center line and hit another car head-on. Kylie Roberto, the daughter of Knoxville councilmember Andrew Roberto, was killed in the crash.
Officials with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office say alcohol and speed both played a factor, with Stanley being under the influence at the time of the crash.
In April, Stanley was indicted, and on Friday the Knox County District Attorney’s Office says she pleaded guilty to one count of vehicular homicide, two counts of reckless aggravated assault and one count of vehicular assault.
Stanley will remain in custody until October 2, 2026 and will then be placed on state probation for 10 years, during which she is not allowed to consume alcohol or drugs. Additionally, she must also complete community service at a location honoring Kylie Roberto through service or supporting organizations involving advocating, educating or supporting reductions in impaired driving.
Since the death of his daughter, Councilman Roberto has become an advocate for driver safety. In August, Knox County leaders announced a major investment on Schaeffer Road in an attempt to make it safer.
Among the new additions are more flashing signs reminding drivers to slow down and reflectors and rumble strips down the center line, all safety tools drivers can see and hear to make sure you stay in your lane.
