Jefferson County, TN (WOKI) A Jefferson County couple is facing charges after their daughter is hospitalized with a cut in her mouth, throat and esophagus.
Officials say an officer responded to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital on July 1 with warrants for Michala Raines and Zechariah Mills after getting a call from Child Protective Services.
CPS told police that hospital staff had found a “severe” cut on the child, who was 15 days old at the time. The cut was so bad, she had to have surgery.
Mills says the child had started bleeding from her mouth while being bottle fed. ETCH staff found the cut was not accidental.
Each parent was charged with aggravated child abuse.
