Athens, TN (WOKI) A woman has been indicted in a deadly motorcycle crash that happened earlier this summer in Athens.
The crash happened on June 18. Athens city officials say officers responded to the intersection of Redfern Drive and Congress Parkway to find 57-year-old Phillip Oswalt dead.
According to the city, a lengthy investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies led to the arrest of 53-year-old Eileen Stapler who has been indicted on a charge of reckless homicide in connection to the incident.
Stapler is alleged to have fled the scene after her SUV struck Oswalt after he had already been injured in an initial crash at the intersection. The driver of an SUV involved in the first crash stayed on the scene, the city said.
“This is a great example of building a quality case and then making the arrest,” Athens Police Chief Freddy Schultz said. “I am very grateful for the hard work and dedication of our investigative and patrol divisions who were relentless in their efforts from the initial response until an arrest was made.”
