#5 Tennessee Drops Series Finale to #2 Texas A&M

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – No. 5 Tennessee fell 13–2 to No. 2 Texas A&M in Saturday’s regular-season finale at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium, dropping the final SEC series of the year.

The game resumed Saturday morning in the bottom of the second inning after being suspended Friday night due to inclement weather in the Knoxville area.

Texas A&M (43–9, 16–7 SEC) jumped out to an early lead Friday, opening the game with a single followed by back-to-back doubles to go ahead 3–0. A solo home run and an RBI single in the second inning stretched the Aggies’ lead to 5–0 before the weather delay halted play.

When action resumed Saturday, Tennessee (40–13, 15–9 SEC) responded immediately as Sophia Nugent led off with a first-pitch home run to right-center, cutting the deficit to 5–1. It marked her 14th homer of the season and her third in as many at-bats, dating back to Game 2 of the series.

A&M answered with four runs in the third and added four more in the fifth, while Tennessee managed to plate its second run of the contest in the bottom of the third.

IN THE CIRCLE
Erin Nuwer (5–4) got the start, throwing 1.1 innings and allowing four runs — three earned — on four hits and a walk.

Freshman Peyton Tanner entered in relief, pitching 1.2 innings and giving up five runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout. Charli Orsini also saw time in the circle, tossing two innings and surrendering four runs — three earned — on three hits with three walks and one strikeout.

CHECK THE STATS
Nugent finished 1-for-2, continuing her power surge with her 14th home run of the year. The Seal Beach, California, native homered in three straight at-bats across Games 2 and 3 of the series.

DUE UP
Tennessee will travel to Athens, Georgia, for the SEC Tournament scheduled for May 6–10.
