Standardized testing results in Tennessee came back and shed a negative light on education during the pandemic. Governor Bill Lee called the data “sobering” and “unacceptable.”
The results showed an educational downturn in every county in the state. Academic proficiency also dipped in all subjects across every grade.
Soon after the release of the data, Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton (R) said the evidence shows that schools should not be closed and there should not be a mask mandate inside the schools. He announced that if any school district in the state implement mask mandates or closures due to Covid-19, he will call ask for a special session.
