KCHD To Begin Receiving Moderna Vaccine Instead of Pfizer

The Knox County Health Department announced they will no longer be receiving additional Pfizer vaccines for Covid-19.

The department did clarify that if you are waiting for your second shot of the Pfizer vaccine after receiving the first through KCHD, you will still be able to receive it through them.

Also, Shelly Walker of KCHD said this change does not have anything to do with the Department’s loss of 975 doses of Pfizer vaccine earlier this week.

“Knox County’s decision not to receive any additional Pfizer vaccine is not at all related to the incident resulting in lost vaccine doses,” said Walker. “Our vaccination team reached out to partners including the Knox County Health Department to ask which product they’d prefer to use, and Knox County chose the Moderna vaccine. I want to make it clear that choice was not any sort of punitive action, and again, is not the result of what occurred with the missing Pfizer doses.”
