Dolly Parton turns 75 today. Dolly was born in Sevierville, the fourth child out of the 12 kids. Dolly credits her Uncle Bill Owens for helping her get started in the music business. He took her to audition for Cas Walker, which landed her on the Cas Walker Farm and Home Hour TV and radio shows. He also coordinated her a guest appearance spot on the Grand Ole Opry.
This year, Dolly donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to support research for a COVID-19 vaccine. Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine was made possible in part through Parton’s gift.
Imagination Library was started by Dolly in 1995 because her Dad couldn’t read. It started in Sevier County and is now in all fifty states and several other countries. They have gifted over 150 million books
