The Knoxville City Council passes a resolution that will create a sports authority.
The resolution, which passed with an 8-1 margin, is part of a long process that has a goal of seeing the Smokies baseball team move to Knoxville. Mayor Indya Kincannon says that forming a Sports Authority is a step that we can take now to leave options open for financing a potential stadium.
A $142-million proposal from University of Tennessee President Randy Boyd would place the stadium where Knox Rail Salvage is currently located. The proposal also includes a mixed-use development.
