Beginning Friday, in Knox County, social gatherings will be limited to ten people for every 360 square feet of business space. The Knox County Board of Health voted to add the restrictions at Thursday night’s meeting in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Knox County Mayor, Glenn Jacobs, opposed the regulation saying enforcement will be difficult and confusing. He said it will be difficult to tell who is part of the same family and if they’re over the space limit. Dr. Patrick O’Brien, and Dr. Jack Gotcher also voted “no.”
Dr. James Shameyeah wants the option to enforce the regulation, if necessary. Dr. Shameyeah says in situations where there is an obvious violation enforcement could occur.
While voting no, Dr. O’Brien asked residents to follow the measure saying, “We have tough time ahead. We need to do everything we can to help each other.”
The new regulation will be in place until at least early January.
