With the success of many Covid-19 Vaccines in clinical trials, Knox County is slated to receive 975 shots of vaccine in December.
Charity Menefee of the Knox County Health Department said 975 shots does not necessarily mean 975 people can receive vaccines because people may have to take two shots in order for the vaccine to be effective.
“There is not a firm timeline,” said Menefee. “With the news that came out earlier this week, the first vaccine is going through the process with the FDA as we speak and we’re hearing that the meeting will be in early December. From that point on, I expect things to move very quickly, but it has to get through that FDA final approval process that happens after that meeting.”
Knox County currently has 2,125 active cases of Covid-19 along with 106 hospitalizations and 153 deaths connected to the virus.
