The Knox County Health Department Believes Lack of Testing is the Reason for a Rise in Hospitalizations

The Knox County Health Department is concerned over the growing number of hospitalization and decline in testing in the county.

Director, Dr. Martha Buchanan says the burden of disease in the community is probably higher than it’s been during this entire pandemic because people are worried about being tested.

Buchanan says she understands that no one wants to be quarantined or have their family isolated but by not being tested you could run the risk of infecting a friend or family member who may have diabetes or other risk factors for COVID-19. She says you could also run the risk of infecting an elderly parent or grandparent.

Buchanan is also asking individuals and businesses to cooperate with the contact tracers in the department so this process can work and protect the our residents. She says all information is confidential and only used to protect the community in a public health investigation.
