Knox County Seeing Increase in COVID-19 Cases, KCHD Urges Testing

Knox County active COVID-19 cases surpass 2,000 today (Wednesday) and it’s the first time since earlier this summer.

There are 69 new cases today bringing the total active cases to 2,024. There were 219 new cases reported yesterday (Tuesday), one of the highest increases since reporting began.  No new deaths were reported so the total remains at 67 Knox County deaths related to COVID-19.

Dr. Martha Buchanan, Director of the Knox County Health Department, says some people aren’t getting tested because they don’t want them or their families to be quarantined if they are positive. She says this is very dangerous because if they are positive, they could be spreading the virus to their loved ones and others even if they are asymptomatic.

The Knox County Health Department conducts testing at the Jacobs Building in Chilhowee Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
