Off-Duty Oliver Springs Officer Found in Submerged Vehicle

The body of an Oliver Springs police officer was pulled from a submerged vehicle overnight Friday. A passerby spotted the vehicle in the Clinch River near Martin Shoals.

Officer James Perkins was inside. He was off-duty at the time. Investigators believe the vehicle floated downstream for a time. Officials say the cause of death is drowning and foul play is not suspected.

Perkins has been an Officer for since 2006 working with the Rockwood, Roane State, Spring City and Oliver Springs police department. Officials say he was an outstanding police officer and was dedicated to serving the area.
