Tennessee Governor Bill Lee issued a statewide order Monday, closing non-essential businesses and telling Tennesseans to stay home for the two weeks. The order is an effort to combat the spread of COVID-19. The “safer at home” order enacts similar restrictions put in place by mayors in Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville and governors in more than 20 other states.
Mayors and medical professionals from across the state have been pressuring Lee to issue the “safer at home” order statewide. Until now, the governor cited Tennesseans’ willingness to do the right thing as a reason to hold of taking the action.
