A mudslide has closed The Spur in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The slide happened in the northbound lanes of the Spur between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Monday. The slide was just past the Westgate Resort and covers about 100 feet of both northbound lanes.
A detour is in place for northbound traffic via Little Smoky Road and Beech Branch Road. Larger vehicles are being detoured east of Gatlinburg to Highway 231.
Crews will assess the slide Tuesday and depending on the stability of the slope they could start removing debris to get one lane open. There’s no estimate when they’ll have the roadway cleared.
The Northbound Spur is temporarily closed between Westgate and Beech Branch Rd due to a rock slide. A detour is available using Little Smoky Rd to Beech Branch Rd. Tractor Trailer/large trucks cannot utilize the detour and must take another route.
