Authorities have identified the person of interest in the quadruple homicide in Cumberland County. Mark Gwinn of the TBI said in a press conference streamed by WBIR-TV today they have Jacob Allen Bennett in custody. No charges have been filed. Officials reported Bennett was apprehended without incident at 12:00am CST in Rhea County this (Friday) morning.
Officials would not comment on many details. However, Cumberland County Sheriff Butch Burgess said that Bennett has been booked through his jail five times, and he knows he has a rap sheet spanning other counties and another state.
The case involves the shooting deaths of four individuals in Cumberland County. They were found shot to death Thursday Morning in a car outside of Renegade Mountain, a former gated resort community. The victims are driver 22-year-old Danielle Jacobson and three passengers 17-year-old Steven Presley, 17-year-old Dominic Davis and 16-year-old John Lajeunesse.
Gwinn credits the cooperation between several agencies as the reason why Bennette was obtained so quickly and easily. Several agencies including the TBI, Cumberland Co, Rhea Co, and others worked together seamless to find Bennett. The DEA said they are awaiting the convening of the Grand Jury before moving forward with charges.
