Charges Filed Against Two Suspects in Shooting and Stand-off at a Sevierville Hotel

Charges are filed against two suspects who fired shots at police from a Sevierville hotel.

31 year-old Richard Smith is charged with ten counts of attempted first degree murder. 22 year-old Megan Arnold is charged with criminal responsibility for facilitation of a felony.

Smith’s charges are for the ten Knox County Sheriff Deputies who were at the Days Inn yesterday investigating the suspects when Smith opened fired.

The investigation is ongoing. Additional charges are pending.

Update:

Two people are in custody after an officer-involved shooting and standoff at a Sevierville Hotel.

According to our TV News Partner WVLT Knox County deputies were investigating a burglary and stolen vehicle just after 1 p.m. Tuesday when shots were fired at officers through the hotel door of the Days Inn on the 3000 block of Winfield Dunn Parkway.

The Sevierville Police Department SWAT team surrounded both suspects, a man and woman, who were arrested by SPD. Two handguns were recovered.

KCSO said deputies did not return fire. No one was injured during the incident.

Several nearby businesses were shut down during the investigation.

According to our TV News Partner WVLT Knox County deputies were investigating a burglary and stolen vehicle just after 1 p.m. when shots were fired at officers through the hotel door.

KCSO said deputies did not return fire.

Several nearby businesses were closed including the Fireworks Super Market were all shut down during the investigation.

No injuries have been reported. Police are still investigating.
