TDEC Warns Not to Eat Fish From Holston River

TDEC has also issued a precautionary advisory for smallmouth bass and channel catfish in the Nolichucky River from Douglas Reservoir upstream to the mouth of Bent Creek due to mercury content.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation cautions against eating fish from the Holston River.

TDEC is extending it’s precautionary fish consumption advisory on the Holston River due to mercury. It now also includes the Cherokee Reservoir.

The advisory was originally issued due to mercury levels in various bass species.

The advisory on the Reservoir will now include both black bass and catfish species. The advisory for the Holston River upstream of the Reservoir will continue to be for all fish species.

TDEC will post warning signs at public access points.
